Our Collaboration with Ecolibris

At Modern Paper Goods we’re constantly on the lookout for ways to be better environmental stewards which is why we’re collaborating with Ecolibris to help you “balance” out your greeting card giving.

Ecolibris a “green” Seattle based company, that's on a mission: their aim is to provide people with easy and affordable ways to take responsibility for their actions and go green. And they’re doing it with books. Yes, books!

Ecolibris enables people to do something reasonable, affordable yet with an impact: plant a tree for every book they read.

And as you know, all paper goods were once trees including greeting cards. So we’ve collaborated with Ecolibris to plant a tree on your behalf for every 10 greeting cards you purchase through ModernPaperGoods.com

Here's how it works

  • For every 10 greeting cards you purchase we’ll work with Ecolibris to plant a tree on your behalf- at no additional cost to you.
  • We’ll notify you by email each time a tree that’s planted on your behalf

FAQ

How will I know when I’ve bought enough cards to have a tree planted?

Once you’ve purchased 10 cards your account will be updated to indicate the number of trees that will be planted on your behalf. This information is stored in your account and viewable on your My Account page. We will also send you an email each time your purchases total the number of cards necessary for a tree planting. Personalized cards will be added to your tree-planting total one the cards are mailed, while non-personalized cards will be added once the cards are shipped.

Do I have to buy 10 cards at once to get a tree planted?

No. We track your total cards purchased on a cumulative basis, meaning if you purchase several cards over a 3 month period, once you’ve reached 10 cards, your account will be updated and we will also send you an email confirmation.

Is there a cost to me for planting a tree?

No, there is no cost to you for planting the tree. All you have to do is purchase your greeting cards as usual and we will work directly with Ecolibris to plant the trees on your behalf.

How are the trees planted?

We communicate directly with Ecolibris to let them know how many trees should be planted to balance out your card purchases. Ecolibris then works with their planting partners who are organizations which work in developing countries. Their planting and conservation activities are an integral part of their efforts to help local communities in these countries move towards a sustainable future. Ecolibris makes sure that your trees will be planted where they provide significant value for both the environment and the local communities, who are very much involved and play an important part in the planting projects.

OK, I balanced out a few greeting cards. When will the trees actually be planted?

Planting trees properly is a process that takes time. Generally, trees are planted during rainy seasons after being grown for a while in nurseries. There are also unexpected variables that can influence the timing of tree planting like extensive rainy seasons or extreme drought conditions. Based on the expected time-frames of our planting partners, trees will be planted within a year of the date of your payment. We are proud to be working with planting partners who take their job seriously and therefore, even if it takes some time to see the trees you pay for being planted, knowing that the process is handled in the most professional way possible makes it worthwhile. You can also rest assured every tree you pay for is 100% accretive - when you pay for a tree, a new tree will be planted (actually, 1.3 trees, to make sure at least one will survive). Without your contribution, this tree will not have been planted. Our planting partners are aware of the significance of this issue to us and our annual assessments will include a verification of their compliance to make sure our promise to you is kept.
